St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center seeks conservative evangelical Christian Naturalists each school year to work with the Barrier Island Environmental Education Program. St. Christopher is run by the Diocese of South Carolina and is located 25 miles south of Charleston on Seabrook Island. The campus includes nearly one mile of beach, 100 acres of salt marsh, 200 acres of undisturbed maritime forest, two freshwater ponds, and a freshwater swamp. The year will provide an opportunity to not only gain valuable environmental education experience, but also learn how to be a minister through all walks of life.
August 13, 2017 - May 12, 2018 (with poss. of extension).
Instruction in day and evening programs on beach, forest, pond and wetland ecology, astronomy, birding, herpetology, tracking, and leading team-building challenge courses. Naturalists will also aid Housekeeping staff for one morning each week to help maintain the center. Assist in either herpetarium, aquarium or trail maintenance work teams, and other programs as assigned.
Time off is provided each week. Additionally, there may be opportunities for weekend work with other programs and guests, for additional pay ($20/hr.). BA/BS in education or biology/environmental science related fields is ideal. Teaching interest and the ability to engage elementary and middle school aged students and a strong committed love for Jesus is of utmost importance.
