Pastor of Small Groups & Adult Discipleship

River Valley Church (Mishawaka, IN) has begun a search for a full-time Pastor of Small Groups & Adult Discipleship. This person will provide leadership for the development and implementation of a dynamic ministry of assimilation utilizing small groups wherein members of the church are growing as disciples of Christ as they participate in community through mission and mission through community.


Responsibilities (The following are meant to be more descriptive than prescriptive.)

A. Pastoral Responsibilities—The ADP is first and foremost a shepherd. As such, he shall engage discipleship ministry volunteers and staff on a personal and spiritual level to encourage them intheir relationships with one another and with the Lord. The fulfillment of this objective has typically included devotions at the outset of meetings, devotions, regular communication, prayer meetings, retreats, and social gatherings.

B. Leadership Responsibilities—The ADP shall develop strategic initiatives for the adult discipleship ministry of RVC in such a way that they align with the vision, mission and values of RVC as articulatedby the Lead Pastor. In this role, the ADP shall monitor and communicate the state of the discipleship ministry and staff responsibilities so that the ministry is characterized by theological coherenceand alignment of resources.

C. Small Groups – The ADP shall develop and implement a strategy of multiplying small groups leaders and groups. In so doing, the ADP, through a variety of methods and venues, shall recruit, trainand develop a group of dedicated small group leaders.

D. Teaching/Coaching Responsibilities—The ADP shall support and encourage volunteers and staff in their service to the adult discipleship ministry of the congregation.

E. Administrative/Management Responsibilities— The ADP shall develop and maintain operational systems which encourage volunteers and lead to effective ministry.
